Merry Christmas Eve, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

"Ho, ho, ho."

Merry Christmas to all! I am posting this a day early because I am leaving for New York awhile and won't be able to work on any reviews while there. However, I am working on several reviews at once for the near future. Man, one receives so many and views so many action movies sometimes that you forget to list them all. Unlike November which was a light month, I must have watched nearly 15-20 great action flicks this December. But we're talking Christmas time now! So, I recommend two Christmas themed action flicks to help you get through the holidays. Enjoy and be safe!

The Obvious Choice: Die Hard (1988) - Everyone brings this up when they are trying to mention anti-Christmas movies. And it's a no brainer, Die Hard takes place at Christmas time, has a Christmas party, a Christmas song, and just puts you in that mood for the season. Of course, most people don't see shooting people and jumping off of buildings as putting them in the season but oh well. Die Hard is one of the best action movies ever made. It's very American in that it is completely character driven too. It doesn't have too much action, but just the right amount to keep you excited while watching it. Every best of action list has this in its top 10 and one day I'll give it a review on the site. For those who are curious though, I love this movie and hope you choose to watch it around Christmas time.

The Underrated Choice: Riot (1996) - Riot is even more of a Christmas action film than Die Hard even is. It opens up with O Holy Night, Christmas decorations adorn ever single scene, and it all takes place on Christmas night. But most people have never heard of this and don't know who Gary Daniels (The Expendables) is or...Sugar Ray Leonard? That's right. It's an action duo that nobody saw coming. Riot is like a Christmas version of The Warriors and Escape From New York all wrapped up with a nice bow. You get a big body count, lots of action, and cheesy dialouge. Really, this is quite the low budget film. I don't think you ever see blood fly off of someone when they get shot. Daniels does a fine job punching and shooting his way through various gang members as he has to enter an over run area to save a Government official's daughter, a.k.a. his ex-girlfriend. If you want to be even more of a Christmas action hipster, this is the choice for you! While it's not as good as Die Hard, you will be 1 of a million people watching this flick come Christmas time.
