Action News: October 19, 2013

The middle of October brings some nice action news! We're getting news on a highly anticipated sequel and two action icons get new films to join their ever growing resumes.

October Releases:
Machete Kills - Oct. 11
Chinese Zodiac, a.k.a. CZ13 - Oct. 18
Escape Plan - Oct. 18

Iko Uwais' character just can't catch a break.

#1: The Raid 2: Berandal - First up, Gareth Evans is back to blow our minds with another round of The Raid! The first film has already obtained a cult status for its brutality and balls to the walls action scenes. And now we have the sequel: The Raid 2: Berandal! This image gives us our first look of the entire cast. Worth noting is that Evans has stated that over an hour of action and 18 action scenes will be in the film! This is shaping up to be the most action packed film of all time.

"This plane has been taken!

#2: Non-Stop - The only thing that could make The Raid 2 that much better is if Liam Neeson was in it. Unfortunately he is not in it and will instead be taking his bad assness to the skies in the new film: Non-Stop! It looks like a great terrorist-threat action flick in the sky along the lines of Passenger 57, Air Force One, and Con Air. It looks totally over the top and that's just the way I like this kind of flick. It also has Liam Neeson doing his gravely American accent, a voice that no other actor can match! Definitely looking forward to this film, it's the kind of flick you need to go see in order to support "real" action films. It'll probably be PG-13, but Liam Neeson finds a way to kick more ass in a PG-13 film than most actors do in an R rated film.

"Daniel Day does a movie every 5 years? I do 3 a year!"

#3: Homefront - Another good reminder is that Homefront is coiming out soon! This R-Rated actioner looks to be a nice little flick starring Jason Statham as our hero and James Franco of all people as our villain. Very much looking forward to this silly small town action flick. I also have been pretty disappointed in Jason's action outings this year. Parker was an overlong and boring action film while Redemption was barely even an action film at all. Let's hope that Homefront redeems Statham this year. Otherwise, 2013 will be a dark year for the guy. 2014 should be a big one for him though, since The Expendables 3 will be coming to theaters in the summer.
