Nov. 8 - Thor: The Dark World - The second standalone Thor film is finally here. This is looking to be a massive improvement over the first film which was burdened with being an Avengers lead in. This film however looks to be entirely stand alone and that is what I want the most out of my Thor movie. It'll expand on the characters by keeping them mostly in Asgard and give us more action than the first film gave us. Here's hoping it's a good action blockbuster!
Nov. 22 - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - So I wasn't sure whether to count this as an action film or not. I saw the first film and despised, loathed, and hated its action scenes. It featured some of the worst action photography I have ever seen in my entire life. However, I have read this will feature none of the crappy shaky cam from the first flick, so it's already an improvement. I'm not a big fan of these teen novel to film adaptations, but you could do far worse than The Hunger Games. They have lots of good actors and interesting things going on. I probably won't be seeing this until a rental though.
Nov. 27 - Home Front - One of my favorite things about action films are the action icons. They are those actors that whenever a new film of theirs comes out, all of the action fans go out and see them. And Jason Statham is one of those guys. This looks to be a very simple and basic action film that gets at the roots of what basic action is all about: butt kicking lead, despicable villain, R-Rated violence, easy to follow plot. I am extremely excited about this movie. Definitely expect a review for this the week its released!
Nov. 27 - Old Boy [Remake] - And here we have our first remake release discussed on the site. This looks like an interesting remake though. It seems to be selling the action and violence more than the original film does. It's also interesting seeing this come from Spike Lee, the kind of filmmaker who does not do action typically. Josh Brolin is a certified badass too, he earned his stripes for a lifetime in No Country for Old Men. I definitely plan on seeing this opening weekend just because I love the original so much and really am curious to see how far this U.S. remake goes.
Special Mention: Dead in Tombstone - This direct to video release missed my list for last month's action releases. I am writing about it here to rectify that mistake though. As readers on the site have noted in my review, I was very fond of this Trejo action flick. I highly recommend it for anyone who missed it last month!
Alright, that's the month! It's looking to be a pretty solid month in an otherwise dead year for action. Everyone get out there and see Thor this weekend! Support action baby.
